KW4C Mock Admissions Workshop

February 23, 2023

5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

THS Student Union

One of the best college counseling events of the year! All 10th and 11th grade students and parents are invited to attend. Participants are placed in small "admissions committees" to review 3 candidates. As a group, you review all aspects of the application and determine how the candidates compare to the university profile in order to decide who should be admitted, waitlisted, and denied.

If you would like to experience a “day in the life” of a college admissions counselor and understand the college admission process, please join me on Thursday February 23, 2023 for this interactive parent and student workshop that will provide you with an inside look at the intricacies of the process and how to strengthen your applications.

Pretend you are a college admissions counselor in the middle of your “busy season”.  You are reading application essays and reviewing applications with your Admissions Committee, and you are down to the final applicants with just one spot to offer.  You only have 8 minutes to silently read each essay to yourself (remember, your position demands that you get through 20 applicants a day).  You have 10 minutes to debate at your table (as the Admissions Committee) which applicant you would admit, waitlist, and deny to the next incoming freshman class.  Come to a consensus on which applicant you would offer the spot, but be prepared to offer your rationale to the Director of Admissions, that reviews each decision made by the committee.
